Polar Venture - A polar expedition in the true essence of exploration

EXPEDITION ITINERARY

5th March

Expedition leaves Heathrow and flies direct to Ottawa, where we then take a connecting a flight to Iqualuit. Here we stop for a night and prepare the kit before flying up to Qikiqtarjuaq

6th March

At Qikiqtarjuaq we meet our outfitters. From here we load our gear into wooden ‘Skips’ and the following day we start our ten-hour Skidoo ride to Okoa Bay. Once we arrive we shall stay overnight with our Skidoo drivers.

7th March

The expedition begins. The Skidoo drivers return to Qikiqtarjuaq. We have a height gain of over 1250m over 30km to achieve before we get onto the Penny Ice Cap. This should take approximately two days.

10th - 27th March

It will take us approximately 17 days to cross the ice caps. At the top of ice cap we could face temperatures as low as -65C and 50mph winds.

28th - 31st March

By this date we plan to be off the Ice Cap and at the foot of Mt Asgard. We plan to explore surrounding glaciers and possibly summit peaks. This period also allows as a buffer in case of bad weather on the ice cap.

1st April

The expedition finishes at Pangnirtung. We plan to learn about Inuit Culture and find out how climate change has effected the Inuit way of life. We arrive back in the UK on the 3rd April.
